Netflix is working on transforming Lemony Snicket's "A Series of Unfortunate Events" into a web series. But since it was announced November last year, there is no new word as to when it will premiere or who will star. There's basically no concrete update about the development of the show.

But to fans' shock and delight, a trailer for the upcoming Netflix series popped up out of nowhere. It did not take long before it garnered much attention. In fact, it was viewed more than 1.6 million times when it was first uploaded on July 5.

However, the trailer, although well put together, Entertainment Weekly confirms, wasn't created by Netflix (even though its logo was shown at the end). It was uploaded by a YouTube account that goes by the name Eleanora Poe, which, according to Variety, was created only last month and had no prior uploaded videos.

As Business Insider points out, Eleanora Poe is a character in the "A Series of Unfortunate Events" books. She is the Editor-in-Chief of the fictional The Daily Punctilio, who sacked Snicket for writing an awful review of a play.

Slashfilm says that the fan-made "A Series of Unfortunate Events" trailer was stuffed with key elements from the books, signaling that the maker was well-versed of the franchise. It is also so incredibly well-made that there's a bit of twinge to call it fake. Independent even assumed it was a case of a leakage.

The Verge studied the footage scene by scene. It looks like the setting is the filthy home of antagonist Count Olaf. There were grubby, maggot-filled dishes with leftovers of what could be puttanesca, which the Baudelaires prepared for Olaf and his acting troupe in the first book, "The Bad Beginning."

There was also the leech from Lake Lachrymose, which is a nod to the third book, "The Wide Window." A book about Nuptial Law, Violet's ribbon and the marriage license are all vital elements in the first book as well. A stuffed crow and a "Lucky Smells Lumber Mill" needlepoint are features from the fourth and seventh book, "The Vile Village" and "The Miserable Mill," respectively.

"A Series of Unfortunate Events" fans will recognize the Hotel Denouement bellhop hat as well as a book about Mushroom Minutiae from book 12 "The Penultimate Peril" and book 11 "The Grim Grotto," respectively. Klaus' glasses on a stack of books, one of which is about starting fires, hints on the greatest mystery in the series: VFD.

Lastly, the trailer featured a silhouette of the heinous Count Olaf, with the signature hair, bushy eyebrows and the unmistakable horrible aura. Slashfilm lauds it for nailing the tone as exhibited in the books, making it hard to believe that the footage isn't the real deal.
