J.K. Rowling and Sony Announce New Harry Potter Game

If you thought that J.K Rowling would go into retirement after "Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows"  or that she would abandon her young fans by focusing on adult literature, think again. The Harry Potter phenomena is far from over.

On June 4, Sony Computer Entertainment announced a new partnership with J.K. Rowling, the author of the Harry Potter series, to bring to market "Wonderbook," a product for the  Playstation 3 games console.  According to Forbes, "Wonderbook: Book of Spells" takes the user through an interactive riddle where the Playstation Move motion is a wand that casts spells. When a spell is cast, the user is rewarded with new and original stories from Rowling.

Sony executives hailed "Wonderbook" as an innovation is storytelling. "This is an extraordinary device that offers a reading experience like no other, "We believe that Wonderbook: Book of Spells represents the next revolution in story-telling and are excited that PlayStation technologies are able to bring even more of the world of Harry Potter to life in exciting new ways," said Andrew House, President of Sony Computer Entertainment.

J.K. Rowling seemed equally excited about the new venture saying, "Wonderbook: Book of Spells is the closest a Muggle can come to a real spellbook. I've loved working with Sony's creative team to bring my spells, and some of the history behind them, to life.

In addition to writing the conundrum for the game, Rowling has also written fun tidbits about the spells and other notes that delve even deeper into the world she created through her seven books.  Perhaps most important to the integrity of that world and the Harry Potter storyline, Rowling said that "Wonderbook" was written over two hundred years ago by Miranda Goshawk and could only be found in the restricted section of the Hogwarts library. That is, until now.
