E.L. James, the author of "Fifty Shades of Grey" opened up in a recent interview about the casting controversies surrounding the movie adaptation of the film and what she loves most about Dakota Johnson.
The casting for the film version of E.L. James' erotic novel "Fifth Shades of Grey" gathered more than its fair share of controversies. The author has largely remained mum on the events except the occasional tweets about some announcements.
However, the bestselling author took time out to sit with Entertainment Weekly and opened up for the first time about the casting controversies and what she loves most about Dakota Johnson, the actress roped in to play Anastasia Steele.
Addressing the huge reaction she got when Charlie Hunnam was initially cast to play Christian Grey, she said, "It was very mixed and I had to get off Twitter for a couple of days. I wasn't surprised. People hate change. I thought there would be a few people upset, regardless of whom we had chosen. It was intense, but people came around to it."
The author also said she was disappointed when Hunnam dropped out of the film. However, she also said she's happy they chose Jamie Dornan as they received very positive feedback on this casting decision.
James is also happy that a woman is directing the movie because she had written the book specifically for herself and women all across the globe. However, she revealed that it's just a co-incidence that Sam Taylor-Johnson was asked to direct the film. As the film nears the beginning of shooting, James says she's nervous as hell. When asked if she feels the fans will blame her if they don't like the movie, the author revealed that according to her the fans will blame her for everything wrong related to "Fifty Shades of Grey."
Moving on to the cast, James revealed that Dakota Johnson was always her first choice for Anastasia Steele because even though she's an "old soul" she has a wicked sense of humor.
Pictures of the leading couple were released earlier this week by the magazine along with an announcement that the release date for the film has been pushed back from August 1, 2014 to February 13, 2015.
