Clearly bored with the "everyday" demands of Hollywood life - running away from aliens, and/or half-alien-half-machine hybrids, going "full-retard"- Shia LeBeouf seems to be doing everything in his power lately to distance himself from his child-actor past.
The 26-year-old reportedly dropped acid for a role where his character in "The Necessary Death of Charlie Countryman" is on acid, hit the moonshine hard to portray Depression-era bootleggers in "Lawless," and performed totally nude in a music video for band Sigur Ros. Now that he's signed on to have unsimulated sex in Lars Von Trier's "Nymphomanic," the actor has revealed just how he got that part: he secretly filmed him and his girlfriend having sex, and sent the tapes to von Trier as part of his "audition."
During a recent appearance on Chelsea Handler's E! network show, "Chelsea Lately," the "Transformers" star publicly confessed that he filmed himself having sex with his girlfriend to land a role in the new von Trier film, because, as LeBeouf put it, sex is a beautiful thing.
Does life imitate art? Or does art imitate life? LeBeouf clearly doesn't know the answer, either at this point.
LaBeouf claims there are no limits to what he'll do for von Trier. "(I'll do) whatever's asked," he vowed to MTV News. "It's going to be a wild movie."
In the new von Trier project, LaBeouf will be required to actually have sex on screen rather than simulate sex, which occurs in most mainstream movies. He shot the footage and sent it to von Triers to "show he's willing to go all the way on camera," the report states.
"It is what you think it is. There's a disclaimer at the top of the script that basically says, we're doing [the sex] for real," said LaBeouf, "And anything that is 'illegal' will be shot in blurred images. But other than that, everything is happening."
Perez Hilton reports that LaBeouf's girlfriend, stylist Karolyn Pho, is uncomfortable with her boyfriend's latest role.
A source has said, according to Oregon Live, "She wants him to do the film, because Shia was desperate to work with Lars-he's such a hero of his. And she doesn't mind if he strips off completely... Karolyn doesn't want him having sex with somebody else-simple. She's begged Shia to ask Lars if it's possible to make the scenes appear real, rather than shoot them real."
The appearance on "Chelsea Lately" - promoting his new movie, "Lawless" - came just two weeks after LaBeouf was photographed in an emotional argument with his girlfriend on a Los Angeles street.
Speculation has centered on the timing of Karolyn Pho's meltdown - a day after her actor beau told MTV News he's willing to have real sex on "Nymphomaniac" if the director calls for it. (Von Trier is just started to shoot 'Nymphomaniac," starring Charlotte Gainsbourg, and plans to release both soft-core and hard-core versions of the drama.)
The 23-year-old Pho told the Daily News later, "It's none of anybody's business. Everything is fine with us. It was nothing affiliated with his movie."
"The Nymphomaniac" is slated to hit theaters sometime in 2013. The cast includes Gainsbourg, Stellan Skarsgård, Shia LaBeouf, Willem Dafoe, Connie Nielsen, Jamie Bell, Jens Albinus, Jesper Christensen and Nicole Kidman.
