Barnes & Noble has opened a new store in Princeton, New Jersey, featuring more than 60,000 books and an expanded children's department.
Barnes & Noble seems to being doing pretty well for itself now. After announcing a series of customer contests, deals and discounts, the retailer announced the opening of a new store in Princeton, New Jersey, featuring more than 60,000 books, an expanded children's department, educational toys & games, and a NOOK boutique.
The store opened for business September 18 at the MarketFair in Princeton. Prior to the opening, Barnes & Noble hosted a free Friends and Family Preview Night Tuesday, September 17.
"After almost 20 years of operating in MarketFair Mall, we're excited for this opportunity to rebuild at the shopping center and provide our customers with a beautiful new store providing the best-in-class offerings available," said David Deason, Vice President, Development. "Of course, we will continue to serve the community with a vast selection of books, educational toys and games, and our innovative family of NOOK Readers and Tablets, supported by extraordinary customer service for which Barnes & Noble is known. Our booksellers are excited to continue to serve the community-and recommend great reads and create memorable experiences with a new and exciting store."
Barnes & Noble drew a completely different picture with this announcement, considering the fact that earlier in 2013 the company had announced its plans to close 20 stores a year over the next decade. Mitchell Klipper, chief executive of the company said Barnes & Noble would most likely have 450 to 500 stores in 10 years, down from 689 retail stores now. The company also runs a separate chain of 674 college stores, according to the WSJ.
