Friends of Robert Pattinson reportedly want the actor to seek treatment at a rehabilitation center for a drinking problem. The "Cosmopolis" actor's friends say he had drinking issues for years, and they've only gotten worse in the wake of ex-girlfriend Kristen Stewart's infidelity with married "Snow White and the Huntsman" director Rupert Sanders, according to Hollyscoop.
Pattinson "has a huge drinking problem" and his friends and family "think that he needs to go to rehab," an unnamed source says. But apparently his drinking is nothing new. According to the source, "He was drinking every day on the set of 'Cosmopolis' and everyone on the set was aware of this," the source says. "His drinking is out of control. He loves vodka and drinks alone."
Actor Bradley Cooper can certainly relate. As he recently stated in interviews, Cooper's been sober for eight years, staying away from drugs and alcohol after overindulging in his 20s. "I was at a party and deliberately bashed my head on the concrete floor - like, 'Hey, look how tough I am,'" Cooper remembers from his wilder days. "And I came up, and blood dripped down. And then I did it again. I spent the night at St. Vincent's Hospital with a sock of ice, waiting for them to stitch me up." Part of what led to so much reckless behavior, he admits, was worrying about his acting career, which was stalling at the time. "I was so concerned what you thought of me, how I was coming across, how I would survive the day. I always felt like an outsider," he explains. "I just lived in my head. I realized I wasn't going to live up to my potential, and that scared the hell out of me. I thought, 'Wow, I'm actually gonna ruin my life; I'm really gonna ruin it.'"
The "Twilight" star has clearly been going through a bit of rough patch lately. Pattinson recently sold his $6.3 million mansion in Los Feliz, California, the home he had shared with former girlfriend Stewart. The actor sold the home because it just "[had] too many memories." Pattinson had lived there with longtime girlfriend Stewart for almost a year, until both moved out of the Los Angeles mansion (previously occupied by actor Noah Wyle) earlier this summer, shortly after news broke that Stewart had cheated on him with Sanders, 41.
Despite recent reports from insiders that Pattinson is ready to meet with Stewart for a talk about their relationship, it seems any hope the couple would reunite for good may have just been drained down to the last pint of blood.
After deciding to sell his home, Pattinson is apparently seriously considering moving back to his native England. An insider revealed, "Robert is thinking long and hard about returning to London. He never fell in love with Los Angeles and has always longed for home. When Kristen was shooting Snow White and the Huntsman in London, he made his excuses to visit her as much as he could - he missed it so much."
"The entire thing has been such a blow to Rob. Talk about having his heart ripped out," a source told People at the time. "Rob just isn't going to be able to get past the cheating - one time or not."
Stewart and Pattinson have managed to avoid each other and have even rearranged their "Twilight" promotional schedules so that they won't appear together, although Pattinson has announced he'll walk down the red carpet with Stewart for the premiere of "Breaking Dawn - Part 2."
