The iPhone 5 is not the only new gadget that will hit the market at the end of this year.
Tablets and mobile devices, such as Amazon's Kindle Fire 2, Apple's iPad Mini, iPhone 5, and Microsoft's new Surface tablet are all expected to launch around the holiday season.
It is rumored that Apple will launch the new iPhone 5 on Sept. 12, and then release the phone at Sept. 21 in the U.S.
Apple is also expected to launch a new iPad Mini that will rival directly with the Kindle Fire 2 on the same iPhone 5 special event. Some reports are now saying that Apple will not announce it on the same day as the phone, and that it will launch in October.
While it seems that Apple will be dominating the holiday season, other big tech firms are gearing to show the world what they have in store.
Microsoft is launching a new Surface tablet in late October, with a release of Windows 8 on Oct. 26. According to Cole at B&R, the company unveiled the logo earlier last week, and is adding street art to several buildings in New York.
Microsoft will also be pushing for their new Windows 8 phone. It will come with a totally new interface, called Metro UI. The phone is said to debut in September.
It was earlier reported by TheVarGuy that Apple rivals Nokia and Samsung are holding events around the same time that the new iPhone 5 is expected to launch.
Microsoft and Nokia are holding a preemptive Windows Phone 8 launch event Sept. 5 in New York.
The Nokia World conference is set for Sept. 5-6 in Finland, while Samsung and HTC each appear to be prepping Windows Phone 8 devices for launch, perhaps as soon as September.
Amazon is expected to announce the Kindle Fire 2 at a special press conference on Sept. 6. Amazon recently sent out invitations to the media. The conference will be in Santa Monica, Cali.
There are rumors swirling around that Amazon will also announce a new phone in the same conference.
According to The Telegraph, industry insiders have been speculating that the company's first ever mobile phone could be unveiled in a bid to take on Apple's hugely popular iPhone and upcoming iPhone 5.
"This season is going to be exciting," said Rob Enderle, a technology analyst and consultant with the Enderle Group, according to Inquirer Technology.
"This is the first time Apple has faced competition on a number of critical fronts. And it's the first time competition is coming from Google directly."
Enderle said he expects Microsoft to spend $1 billion on marketing for its new devices and its Windows 8 platform.
"So the conflict in the fourth quarter is going to be legendary," Enderle said.
The Consumer Electronics Association projects record sales of electronics of $206 billion this year, the first time above the $200 billion mark.
Tablet sales along are expected to reach $29.1 billion, up 83 percent, the association said.
