Prince Harry might have turned heads this week -- racy pictures of a prince in a Las Vegas V.I.P. suite playing strip-pool in his birthday suite tend to have that effect on the public. But today it's Prince William's uniform of choice that's really got people buzzing.
While the world's been obsessing over naked Harry photos, his older brother, Prince William, is making headlines of his own, with his clothes fully on.
The 30-year-old Duke of Cambridge, who serves as a search-and-rescue pilot in the Royal Air Force (RAF), completed his second rescue in four days Monday when he helped pull an injured Canadian hiker from the coast of Anglesey, Wales.
Darlene Burton, 58, of Barrie, Ontario, was completing a 10-day hike around the island of Anglesey when she slipped on a rock and broke her left leg, Canada's Globe and Mail reported.
Mr. Oakley and Ms. Burton were hiking on an isolated trail along the coast close to the picturesque Point Lynas lighthouse.
Speaking Tuesday from a hospital in Bangor, Wales, Mr. Oakley said his wife couldn't possibly move, but he was able to find local fishermen who called for help.
The five emergency responders who quickly made it up the trail, however, couldn't move her out of the trail by land.
"It was a really awkward place for the paramedics to work on her," said Mr. Oakley. But it was high and clear enough for a helicopter to bring more help.
A Royal Air Force Sea King helicopter was called in to transfer Ms. Burton to a hospital, which is when the couple learned the prince was the pilot.
"They all know up here that that's his job," said Mr. Oakley by phone from a hospital in Wales. "He assisted in helping Darlene when they moved the stretcher out (of the helicopter)."
Paramedics called in the RAF to help and Prince William piloted the RAF Sea King helicopter to the rescue.
Ms. Burton was flown to the hospital in Bangor, where she underwent surgery. She had multiple fractures to her left leg and a plate had to be put in it. She was expected to leave the hospital as early as Wednesday.
Mr. Oakley said a Good Samaritan who helped him and his wife offered him a place to stay while his wife is in hospital. The couple is scheduled to return to Canada on Sunday.
Burton underwent surgery to repair multiple fractures to her leg.
William is keeping himself busy with good works. Just last Thursday the prince piloted a rescue mission to save a 16-year-old girl who had been swept out to sea off the coast of Silver Bay in Anglesey. The girl and her 13-year-old sister had been body-boarding in the water when they were caught on a riptide. The older girl remained stranded in the water until an RAF rescue helicopter captained by the prince came to her rescue and pulled her safely to shore.
Prince William became an RAF search-and-rescue pilot with the British Royal Air Force in September 2010, and a search-and-rescue captain in May. His No. 22 Squadron is based in Anglesey, close to where the rescue took place and where he and wife, Kate Middleton, have set up home.
William was forced to miss the Closing Ceremony of the London Olympics earlier this month, leaving his wife and Prince Harry to fulfill his official role, because of his RAF duties.
