The death of Joey Kovar has been shocking to fans, family, and friends, but his brother doesn't think he died of drugs.
The "Real World: Hollywood" reality star was found dead on Friday in a home in his native Chicago, according to reports. He was 29.
Kovar was found at his friend's house and it's believed his death is linked to drugs, according to a report on TMZ. A rep for Kovar told the site that he was discovered by a female friend who called 911 after she saw him bleeding. Authorities arrived at the scene, where he was pronounced dead.
A report from TMZ claimed that the reality star died from a lethal mixture of Viagra, cocaine, and alcohol, according to law enforcement sources. The woman, TMZ identified as Stacey Achterhof, said that he told her he was doing cocaine.
However, Kovar's brother said that he was doing fine and was happy.
"Everyone is in shock right now. He seemed fine, he was happier and he was doing better," David Kovar tells the Chicago Tribune.
Kovar disputed the TMZ report that said his family suspected Joey Kovar died from a drug overdose.
"That is not what anyone is suspecting, my brother was doing very well," Kovar said. "Everything was going very well. The very, very last thing that our family is suspecting is drugs."
Kovar also says that Joey's life revolved around his two kids - 3-year-old son and 2-year-old daughter.
According to MTV, Joey Kovar famously battled his addictions while on the "Real World," even leaving the show midway through the season in 2008 to enter rehab. He ultimately returned to the production, but left again for fear that he might relapse. On the reunion special, Kovar shared that he had been sober for a year. However, he continued to battle demons, later appearing on the VH1 reality show "Celebrity Rehab" in 2009, after he relapsed and began using cocaine and ecstasy again.
According to the Chicago Tribune, police said hey were conducting a death investigation but indicated no foul play was suspected. An autopsy is expected to be performed Saturday.
