The price war continues.

Just two days ago Barnes & Noble announced it was cutting prices on its Nook tablets, making all three of its top-end models unprecedentedly competitive in the increasingly crowded tablet market. But even those price cuts can't compare to today's news: While supplies last, Overstock.com has the refurbished Nook Tablet 16GB for $140, plus $2.95 for shipping.

(Interestingly, Overstock also has the refurbished Nook Tablet 8GB for $135, but for a mere $5 more, the 16GB model is clearly the much better buy.)

For the uninitiated, the Nook Tablet is a fairly robust Android-powered model with a 7-inch screen, microSD expansion slot, dual-core processor, and one of the prettier tablet designs available.

Much like the Kindle Fire, it runs a customized version of Android that can run most of the popular apps.

If you want a more traditional Android experience, just attach a specialized memory card from N2ACards or Root My Nook Tablet and you can boot right into Android proper.

If you're concerned that Overstock's refurbished products might have a short warranty, you can wipe your brow now. They come backed by Barnes & Noble for a full calendar year, same as the new Nooks.

So what's behind the price cut? On one hand, it's a simple matter of age: The Nook Tablet, introduced in 2011, is getting a little stale. And Barnes & Noble is about to have even more company in the tablet market, as sometime this fall Amazon is widely expected to unveil a new line of Kindle Fire tablets, perhaps as many as five or six models, including a 10-inch model, according to Reuters.

Obviously, these will likely sell out quickly. Unless you'd rather wait and see what new tablet models Amazon and/or Apple announce in the coming weeks, take advantage of this deal while you can. It won't be here for long.
