Lionsgate and the filmmakers announced Thursday that Alan Ritchson will play the role of Gloss in the hotly anticipated movie "Catching Fire."
According to the press release, Ritchson most recently starred in the CBS comedy pilot "SUPER FUN NIGHT" with Rebel Wilson, and 'BLUE MOUNTAIN STATE," which aired on Spike TV for three seasons. He is also known for playin Aquaman in CW's "Smallville."
The character Gloss in Suzanne Collins' bestselling novel, "The Hunger Games: Catching Fire," is a former Career tribute from District 1. He fights along his sister, Cashmere, in the 75th Hunger Games.
According to "The Hunger Games" Wiki, Katniss said this about Gloss and Cashmere:
"They seem polite but cool and I spend the whole time thinking about how I killed both the tributes from their district, Glimmer and Marvel, last year, and they probably knew them and might have been their mentors."
Katniss also notes that Gloss is not particularly swift. He also thanks the people of Panem during the interviews for showing kindness to him and his sister.
Ritchman took to Twitter to express his gratitude, "No words can express...To have the opportunity to portray Gloss in @TheHungerGames. To be a part of this great trilogy...just...so grateful," he tweeted.
Lionsgate recently announced who will play the District 2 tributes, Enobaria and Brutus, in the Third Quarter Quell.
Bruno Gunn will play the role of Brutus, who volunteered to partake in the 75th Hunger Games. His partner, Enobaria, will be played by Meta Golding, which the character is described cosmetically altering her teeth to end in sharp points, like fangs, and tipped with gold so that they are indestructible and serve as a weapon.
Recently, actress Lynn Cohen was cast to play Mags. Mags is the female tribute from District 4 during the 75th Hunger Games. She is an 80-year-old woman who volunteered in the place of Annie Cresta, becoming a tribute alongside Finnick Odair, and forms an alliance with Katniss and Peeta.
Recently, "Sucker Punch" actress Jena Malone was cast to play Johanna Mason, a female victor from District 7.
Lionsgate also announced that Philip Seymour Hoffman will play Plutarch Heavensbee. The Oscar winner reportedly said yes to the role of Heavensbee, who takes over as Head Gamemaker after the murder of Seneca Crane, which took place in the first "Hunger Games" film.
Actress Amanda Plummer has been cast in the role of Wiress. She was the one who pointed out the flaw in the invisible force fields in the Capitol and revealed that the arena was shaped and operated lick a clock. Her district partner is Beetee.
These actors will join Jennifer Lawrence (Katniss Everdeen), Josh Hutcherson (Peeta Mellark), Liam Hemsworth (Gale Hawthorne), Elizabeth Banks (Effie Trinket), Lenny Kravitz (Cinna), and Woody Harrelson (Haymitch).
"Catching Fire" is set to release in theaters Nov. 22, 2013.
