Ann Curry was not happy to see Matt Lauer.

According to reports, Curry, 55, has made her first return to NBC's "Today" show since she was replaced as one of its hosts in June.

She was on the "Today" set in London on Thursday to introduce a filmed report on a still photographer. Her story appeared midway through the show's second hour. She introduced it while sitting on the set next to Lauer, and had no on-air interactions with others on the "Today" team.

According to the Associated Press, Curry's banter with Lauer, 54, seemed polite but distant. Lauer said "nice to see you" at the outset and "good to see you" at the end. Curry returned neither sentiment.

 She lost her job as Lauer's co-anchor in June and was replaced by Savannah Guthrie.

Curry was reportedly mad (and still is) about Lauer not standing up for her when NBC executives gave her the boot (reportedly for saggy ratings), according to the Atlantic Wire via Yahoo.

The tension between the two during the recent segment is no surprise.

According to US magazine, in a heartbreaking farewell, Curry burst into tears when saying goodbye to viewers and her colleagues after the show fired her after just one year as co-host and 15 years on the series.

Behind the scenes, it was different. "It was so icy on the set," an insider told Us Weekly of the days leading up to Curry's exit. "You could cut the tension with a knife."

"When the cameras stopped rolling, Ann wouldn't even look at Matt," said the set source. (Indeed, Curry pointedly hugged each of her colleagues except for Lauer on her final show.)

What was the reason for Curry's shocking leave?

In an interview in the August issue of Ladies' Home Journal, Curry said that her clothes and shoes may have played a role in being kicked off the show.

"One day I wore a multicolored dress and someone asked if I was trying to be Toucan Sam. But I chose it because I thought, This will perk up America. I'm encouraged by my bosses to wear these ridiculously high-heeled shoes because women say, 'I love your shoes!' So if it makes women happy, I'll wear them. But I'm still going to be me... I've tried to wear clogs and flats on TV and it hasn't gone well with my bosses," Curry said in the interview according to Inquisitr.

Curry also addressed the issue of women who go grey saying she has no intention of ever dying her hair.

"I've decided not to buy into the idea that I want to stop aging. My wrinkles connect me to my family, to my ancestors and to my future," Curry said. "This is how my father looked when he was my age. I've got cellulite because it runs in my family. I've got gray hair because I won't dye it."

NBC News president Steve Capus told The Hollywood Reporter the reason why he tought Curry did not work out on the show.

"I think [TODAY] was not where her real passion was," Capus said. "In her heart of hearts, I think she would admit that. I think her real passion is built around reporting on international stories. It's tough to convey a sincere interest in something if you don't possess it. We live in a HD world. Dan Rather used to say the camera never blinks. Well, this is an HD world now, and the camera picks up everything. And you could tell with her, you can tell with any anchor, whether they're into it or not. I think we've now come up with a role that will play to her strengths."

Curry has accepted a new multiyear deal as international correspondent/anchor contributing to all NBC News broadcasts. She'll also appear on "Today" as anchor-at-large, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
