"The Hunger Games" star Liam Hemsworth was voted the Hottest Newcomer (Male) in the Total Film Hotlist Awards, and he has some new films under his belt to prove it.

"Huge thank you to all the people who voted for me. I feel very fortunate to receive this award." Hemsworth told Total Film.

The 22-year-old Australian actor talked about why fans are so impressed by his role of Gale, who is Katniss Everdeen's best friend in "The Hunger Games" trilogy, and what fans can expect of him.

"Gale is a good person trying to find a way to stop bad people. And for the most part he has other people's wellbeing before his own which I think makes him likable," Hemsworth said about his character.

"I think just watching the different relationships become more complex will be great to see. I'm really looking forward to the part of the stories where Gale gets to fight back."

"The Hunger Games: Catching Fire" is coming along, and Hemsworth has took time to fix his image to play the important role of Gale.

He recently told Men's Health magazine that preparing for the role was difficult as he bulked up.

"I'm an eater. If I have one addiction in life, it's probably food."

Training was also intense. "I literally had to wait a half hour after each session before I drove anywhere, I had to lay on the ground until I could breathe properly again."

"My character was spending most of his life in a state of hunger, and I wanted to get a sense of that, physically and mentally."

The magazine reported that with the help of his trainer (a former Navy SEAL) and a sparse variation of the Paleo diet, the actor dropped 20 pounds in the month before filming.

"The Navy SEAL was awesome. I always love hanging out with security guards or Marines-real men-because they're the most focused, professional people. And my trainer was a great guy . . . who made me want to die for an hour.

"I love going to the gym, sweating, running around, feeling like I'm having a heart attack. I like the physical side of boxing-it's fun to punch a bag for 20 minutes-but I also feel mentally strong when I box," Hemsworth said. "I feel good in my own body."

The "Hunger Games" star, who is also known for his relationship with singer Miley Cyrus and being "Thor" star Chris Hemsworth's little brother, is starting to make a name for himself.

"I've just wrapped on 'Empire State' and am about to start on 'Paranoia,' the actor told Total Film. "I have a few different things coming that I'm really excited about. Life's good! Can't complain about anything!"

Hemsworth will also star in "The Expendables 2."

The "Hunger Games" stars include Jennifer Lawrence, Josh Hutcherson, Hemsworth (Gale Hawthorne), Elizabeth Banks (Effie Trinket), Lenny Kravitz (Cinna), and Woody Harrelson (Haymitch). 

"Catching Fire," the film adaption for Suzanne Collin's second novel in the trilogy, is set to release in theaters Nov. 22, 2013.
