Fans link their favorite stars to play the key roles of Anastasia Steele and Christian Grey, and stars themselves link their own names to the popular characters. Actress Angelina Jolie is one of them.
The "Tomb Raider" actress may seem perfect for the role by some who read "Fifty Shades of Grey" and a report claims she wants the role, according to The National Ledger.
Jolie has apparently been reading the novel dubbed as 'mommy porn' after being introduced to it while shooting her new film in the United Kingdom.
Workers on the set of "Maleficent" persuaded the 37-year-old actress to pick up E.L. James' book and since then she has become interested in a part in the forthcoming motion picture.
A source told the Daily Mirror newspaper, ''Angelina kept hearing about the book while she was in the UK. All the girls on set were talking about it and how it's being made into a film.
''Angelina went out and bought herself a copy, thinking she'd love a part in the hot topic on everyone's lips at the moment. She knows the film is bound to be a huge hit.''
The steamy "Fifty Shades" trilogy ("Fifty Shades Darker" and "Fifty Shades Freed") tells the story of 22-year-old recent college grad Anastasia Steele, who enters into a dominant/submissive sexual relationship with 27-year old sexy billionaire Christian Grey and both explore the world of BDSM (bondage, dominance, submission, masochism).
The National Ledger said that Jolie is famed for dressing in bondage-style clothing in the past and famously wore the blood of her ex, Billy Bob Thornton, in a vial around her neck.
The insider continued, ''Ange is dead-set on a major part. She's up for the challenge.''
Other stars have said they would like to be Anastasia or Christian, or spoke about their interest in the steamy novels.
"Pretty Little Liars" star Lucy Hale, 23, said that any involvement with the film would take her career in a different direction, and she's comfortable with that type of diversion.
"I definitely am ready to take a step and do something a bit more risky, absolutely, but it's a fine line," she said. "I don't know what that fine line is, but I'm definitely ready to explore a darker side of my acting abilities."
"The Vampire Diaries" star Ian Somerhalder, 33, seems to be the most popular among fans to play Christian Grey.
Last month, Somerhalder even held a sort of campaign on his Twitter, making it clear that he's more than qualified to take the role, according to The Hollywood Gossip.
Actor Colin Egglesfield, 39, is now said to be in the running for the Christian, and recently revealed to Access Hollywood that he could play the part, and that the book is on his reading list.
"Magic Mike" star Channing Tatum, 32, revealed that he would like to be 27-year-old sexy billionaire Christian Grey but only if his wife, Jenna Dewan-Tatum, were going to be Anastasia.
"Dancing with the Stars" 2012 competitor William Levy, 31, said he likes the book.
"I like the book, actually," he told Extra's Mario Lopez. "I think all guys should be like that."
U.K. reality television star Mark Wright, 25, said in an interview with the Daily Star that he would love to play the role of Christian Grey and that it would help him conquer Hollywood.
"I'd love to play Christian; that would be such a great part for me.
"Everybody is loving that book right now," the wannabe actor said.
