Amazon Kindle Fire 2 is now in the works, and reports say that the tablet will launch soon with several new models.
Various tech sources reported that Demos Pernernos, president of U.S. retail for Staples Inc., which sells the Kindle Fire tablet, said that Amazon will be introducing five or six new tablet SKU's (or stock-keeping units) this year. The report confirmed that the tablets will vary in size, and one will be at least 10-inches, and will rival with Apple's iPad.
Jobs&Hire reported that analysts, developers and retail partners said ahead of results next week from the world's largest Internet retailer that Amazon.com is prepping up to expand its mobile platform and broaden its offering of devices beyond e-readers and the Kindle Fire tablet.
Past reports from BGR also supported the same, when they informed that Amazon is prepping at least two new Kindle Fire tablets, a new 10-inch model and an updated 7-inch tablet with a redesigned case. Moreover, a separate report suggested that Amazon will launch new Kindle Fire slates early next month.
Also, earlier reports were cited by Taiwan Economic News that Amazon is looking to launch three new tablets this year, ranging from low- to high-end models in terms of price brackets and specifications. Their report said that the three models will come as a low-end 7-inch model with a resolution of 1024Ã 600 screen display, a medium-end 7-inch version with resolution of 1280 Ã 800 screen and an 8.9-inch version with resolution of 1920 Ã 1200 pixels display.
Recent rumors have also suggested that Amazon might be working on a smartphone, too. With this news, Amazon looks like they are launching a full attack on technology rivals already dominating the market, such as Google's Nexus 7.
Geek.com listed two possibilities on what the five or six SKU's will be.
"One is that Amazon will offer both a seven and 10-inch Kindle Fire and that there will be multiple storage capacities offered - say 16, 32, and 64GB. That would cover six SKUs. Another is that Amazon is only going to offer up an updated 7-inch Kindle Fire, but that there will be a 3G-capable version. Again, roll in multiple storage capacities and you've got six SKUs," reported Geek.com.
GottaBemobile predicted how the Kindle Fire lineup might be:
8GB Kindle Fire 2 - 7-inch
16GB Kindle Fire 2 - 7-inch
16GB Kindle Fire 2 - 10-inch
32GB Kindle Fire 2 - 10-inch
16GB Kindle Fire 2 - 10-inch 4G LTE
32GB Kindle Fire 2 - 10-inch 4G LTE
Rumors suggest that a variant of the new Kindle Fire 2 will have 4G LTE connectivity, according to Mobile & Apps. The new variant will have the same 7-inch display, but upgraded 1,280 X 800 pixels resolution.
According to TechNewsaurus, the latest speculation is that the formal announcement about the release will be on July 31, and the Kindle Fire 2 release date will be August 7.
