"The Hunger Games: Catching Fire" movie is really coming together as fans want to know updates about what's going on.
Lionsgate announced Tuesday, July 17, that actress Amanda Plummer has been cast in the role of Wiress in the film adaption of Suzanne Collins' bestselling novel, which is a part of "The Hunger Games" trilogy.
Best known to film going audiences from her memorable and award nominated roles in "The Fisher King" and "Pulp Fiction," Plummer is also a beloved, Tony Award® winning stage actress on and off Broadway, according to the press release. She can next be seen as the title character in the forthcoming film "Abigail Harms."
"Catching Fire" begins as Katniss Everdeen (Jennifer Lawrence) has returned home safe after winning the 74th Annual Hunger Games along with fellow tribute Peeta Mellark (Josh Hutcherson). Winning means that they must turn around and leave their family and close friends, embarking on a "Victor's Tour" of the districts. Along the way Katniss senses that a rebellion is simmering, but the Capitol is still very much in control as President Snow prepares the 75th Annual Hunger Games (The Quarter Quell) - a competition that could change Panem forever. Gale, Katniss' best friend, is played by Liam Hemsworth.
Wiress is a female tribute for District 3. She proved her worth in the 75th Hunger Games when she revealed to her allies that the arena was shaped and operated like a click by saying "Tick tock" repetitively until Katniss figured it out, according to "The Hunger Games" Wiki. She was also the one who pointed out the flaw in the invisible force fields in the Capitol. Her district partner is Beetee. She is described as shy and seldom completes sentences, which Beetee has to finish them for her.
Jena Malone was recently confirmed to play the role of Johanna Mason, a character in the book who has a snide personality, wits and she gets physical some scenes in the book. Her first appearance in the book is when she strips out of her tribute costume in an effort to make Katniss uncomfortable. She is also said to be gifted with "the wicked ability to murder." She wins her games by pretending to be weak and then picking off the other tributes.
Also recently, Philip Seymour Hoffman will play Plutarch Heavensbee. The Oscar winner reportedly said yes to the role of Heavensbee, who takes over as Head Gamemaker after the murder of Seneca Crane, which took place in the first "Hunger Games" film.
"The Hunger Games: Catching Fire" is set to release in November 2013 with director Francis Lawrence.
