December has an unwarranted bad reputation in the book world. The so-called “big books” do tend to come out earlier in the fall (though this year many were pushed later to avoid competing for attention with the election). In December, the book world goes kind of quiet. But here’s the unsung part of the month: the little books. Not small in terms of quality — but the niche books, the hidden gems, the books that focus on perhaps a slightly narrower slice of life. Here are eight we think are deserving of (bigger) attention.
