John le Carré Talks About His Past Spying Life in New Memoir 'The Pigeon Tunnel: Stories From My Life'

John le Carré is known for his colorful stories about spies and their adventures. But right now, he is working on his first ever non-fiction book and to fans' delight, it will keep the spy theme intact. Only this time, the setting will be the author's very own "secret world." The "Tinker Taylor Soldier Spy" author will talk about his stint in the MI5 and MI6 as an undercover agent in his memoir titled "The Pigeon Tunnel: Stories from My Life."

"It is an exhilarating journey into the worlds of his 'secret sharers'—the men and women who inspired some of his most enthralling novels—and a testament to the author's unique and personal engagement with the last half-century," Penguin Random House, which will publish the book September next year, said of the book in a statement picked up The Guardian.

What makes the book extra special is that it will be the author's means to lay bare his "extraordinary writing life for the first time." Penguin Random House is thrilled and honored to be the company that will take readers deep into the life of the author who wrote as much as he went undercover. Penguin Random House UK CEO Tom Weldon even calls the highly-anticipated memoir "the story of our times."

The 83-year-old writer's secret world isn't much of a big secret as he has already talked about his spy life in some of his books. As per The Guardian, the author, whose real name is David Cornwell, wrote in "The Spy Who Came in from the Cold" about the experience of writing it when he was 30 and was in the middle of serving as an intelligence officer "in the guise of a junior diplomat at the British Embassy in Bonn."

In a statement picked up by The Bookseller, Cornwall's agent Jonny Geller revealed how people long to flip through a David Cornwall memoir. He added that this announcement should come as great news to those people.

Talking about what to expect of the memoir, Geller said there will be "insights into the creative mind, tales of adventures in the movie trade, encounters with the great and the not-so-good, intensely moving stories drawn from over 50 years of observing the world—told in prose other writers would envy."

"The Pigeon Tunnel: Stories from My Life" will be released in September 2016. According to Galley Cat, there will be an audiobook edition for the memoir that will be narrated personally by Le Carré.
