Cissy Houston to Write Book of True Story of Whitney Houston's Life

Whitney Houston will always be remembered in a book being written by her mother, gospel singer Cissy Houston.

Houston signed a deal with HarperCollins for a memoir that will reveal her daughter's "unabridged and unbelievable story" to the world.

HarperCollins announced in the beginning of June that there is currently no book title, and the book is scheduled to come out February 2013.

"When I lost my daughter Nippy (Whitney Houston's nickname), the world lost one of the most beautiful voices and an extraordinarily beautiful and charitable woman," Cissy Houston said in a statement released by HarperCollins. "In sharing our story in this book, I hope to give her fans something to treasure, the way we all treasured Whitney. We are still receiving thousands of letters each day from her fans, and I hope reading this book will provide a deeper understanding into my daughter's true story."

The book will give readers and fans an insider perspective to Houston's life, as well as "set the record straight about Whitney, exploring both her marriage and her misunderstood struggles with drug abuse with a candor, honesty and respect that have long been missing in numerous accounts of her daughter's life."

Grammy Award-winning Whitney Houston died tragically in a Beverly Hills hotel bathtub last February at age 48. She was found submerged in water just hours before she was scheduled to appear at Clive Davis' annual Pre-Grammy gala.

According to ET Online, Houston met with several publishers, even though financial terms of the book deal were not disclosed. A portion of the proceeds are to be donated to New Hope Baptist Church in Newark, N.J., where Whitney sand as a child and her funeral was held.

"Contemplative and private, Cissy Houston has said little publicly about her daughter Whitney's tragic and untimely death," according to the statement by HarperCollins. "Now, for the first time, she will tell the unabridged and unbelievable story of her daughter's life as well as her own, addressing Whitney's brightest and darkest moments while helping fans around the world understand the complexities of this extraordinary star who died much too soon."
