For Mitch Albom, his latest work "The Magic Strings of Frankie Presto" felt like "two books" to write. This is because it serves as the "biggest" title he ever penned so far in his career, as he revealed in an interview with Detroit Free Press. He also revealed that this is the first time he combined his love for music and writing. With such epic milestone and meaning, the release of the 500-page tome will be made extra special.
For charity and shunning cocktail parties, the book launch Mitch Albom & Friends Word and Music Charity Book Launch, the author will be taking advantage of the music theme of the hulking volume, which follows the eponymous character who happens to be the greatest guitar player to ever walk the Earth as he travels his way to 20th century strumming his magic guitar, changing lives and meeting both real and fictional characters as he does.
"The book launch is going to be a celebration of music and guitar-playing," Albom told the aforementioned publication. "And along those lines, some of the people who are participating in the book are going to be there," he announced. That means music icons such as Byrds lead singer and guitarist Roger McGuinn and jazz guitar player John Pizzarelli will be attending the affair.
Bruno Mars' musical director Phredley Brown, The Amboy Dukes lead guitarist Ted Nugent, acclaimed acoustic guitar player and jazz guitarist Earl Klugh, singer-songwriter Michael Bolton and even "Whiplash" actor JK Simmons will get together in one stage for "The Magic Strings of Frankie Presto." "They're all going to be there and play, sing or talk to me or whatever," Albom, who made music before he weaved bestselling stories, quipped.
"The Magic Strings of Frankie Presto" is also getting official soundtrack, which Republic Records offered to help the author with. Albom found it "a perfect way of sort of meshing the two worlds" and the collaborators eventually enlisted artists to write original songs based from the book. Mat Kearney was chosen to complete the lyrics for "I Want to Love You," which is Presto's first big hit in the novel.
According to Galley Cat, the artists that contributed to the album soundtrack include McGuinn, Pizzarelli, Tony Bennett, Lyle Lovett, Darlene Love, Paul Stanley, Burt Bacharach, Wynton Marsalis and Ingrid Michaelson, who was mentioned in the book. Apart from this, there will also be videos where icons "like Paul Stanley from KISS" will talk about Frankie Presto "as if he was real."
