Unsurprising, perhaps, but "Fifty Shades Of Grey" is the now the fastest adult novel to reach the one million mark on the Kindle. It is already the fastest selling book of all time and best-selling book of the year.
The first book in the trilogy has sold one million print copies in 11 weeks. For some perspective, the first runner up "The Da Vinci Code" set the previous record of sales of one million in 36 weeks.
"EL James's books have become both the fastest-selling and the best-selling series ever on Kindle - that's an exceptional achievement for a debut novelist and we''re excited to see her pass the one million sales milestone," Gordon Willoughby, director of EU Kindle, said.
The erotic triology that has taken the world by storm is the 32 bestselling book of all time but with the way things are going, it could easily reach the number one spot. The combined sales of the book globally is already over 20 million and that's just after 4 months.
All of this makes E.L. James, a former T.V. Executive, one rich women. The author whose real name is Erika Leonard will profit not only from the sales of the books but all the merchandise associated with it. Some estimates suggest that the author could be making about $1 million a week.
But as she told USA Today, "It's very strange," she says, "It's just that everything has happened so quickly. It's like it's happening to someone else. They've just been shipping out books like nobody's business."
