Ann Curry May Be Leaving "Today"

It is being reported amidst speculations that have started to circulate throughout the Internet, that Ann Curry may be forced to leave NBC's "Today" show. Curry has been with "Today" since 1997 and replaced Meredith Viera as co-host with Matt Lauer last June.

Again, this is still a speculation as there haven't been any confirmations and NBC has yet to issue a statement.  The network has not returned requests for comment. This move comes after the network lost its rating eminency to rival "Good Morning America" after 16 years of being in the top position.

The Associated Press reports, "Today" lost in the ratings this spring for the first time since 1995 after a string of 852 consecutive weeks. Since then, "Today" and ABC's "Good Morning America" have been trading weekly wins." Adding that "keeping "Today" on top is serious business for NBC. Now four hours long, "Today" is the network's most profitable show and, with no end in sight for the network's prolonged prime-time slump, stands with Brian Williams' "Nightly News" as NBC's most successful program."

Savannah Guthrie, who co-hosts the third hour, will likely take Curry's position.  The New York Times reported that Curry has hired Robert Barnett, a prominent lawyer, to represnt her in talks with NBC.

It is rumored that Curry could leave the show very soon in anticipation of the Summer Olympics, an event that in the past has garnered NBC high ratings.
