Gillinan Flynn's book, "Gone Girl" is getting quite the reception with outstanding reviews and a quick climb on bestseller lists.  A thriller in the vain of the Swedish "Girl with a Dragon Tatoo," series, some are wondering if this book could in fact be the next big thing. Over the last couple of years, the reading world has been hit by breakaway hits that spread like fire in bookstores and on e-book sites. But, it's hard to predict which books will get this kind of attention and why some do.

"Gone Girl" is a mystery thriller that tells the story of a wife gone missing.  The story is told from the perspective of her husband and by the wife herself. Reviews have said that what makes the book successful is the unexpected twists. One minute you're expecting some thing and feel that you've solved the mystery but then the author manages to throw you in for yet another loop.

A review by Seth Harwood in the San Francisco Chronicle describes the book in the following, "Through the alternating narratives of Nick and Amy Dunne, carried out in diary entries and intimate confessions, Flynn takes readers deep inside a marriage gone terribly wrong. When they first met, Nick and Amy were your typical, happy New York hipsters: both working writers, lucky to have jobs and a home. Then they lost these and relocated to Nick's childhood home of Carthage, Mo., to care for his aging parents. Here in middle America, empty McMansions wait for renters and "the recession has ended the mall."

Even before the book was published, people were pre-ordering the book on Amazon which resulted in it getting on the company's bestseller list.  Amazon has named it one of the 10 best books of the month.  A Review by USA Today, asks whether the book is "the novel of the summer."

But this isn't the author's first book and her other books "Dark Places" and "Sharp Objects" were also popular and she's no stranger to bestseller lists.
