Rielle Hunter, mistress of Senator John Edwards, has a memoir coming out on June 26th. But what she writes in the book is already making headlines and is the topic of much commentary in the media. Hunter is making her rounds to promote the book and her exclusive interview will be airing on ABC's 20/20 on Friday.  She has also done an interview with GQ magazine where she posed provocatively for the article.

Thanks to an advance purchase of the book by the Associated Press, the details of what she writes of her trysts with Edwards is now available and has caused a firestorm of controversy.  For example, Hunter writes that she was not Edwards' first mistress and that he told her of two other women that he'd had affairs with that dated back 20 years.  She also says that Elizabeth Edwards, who died of cancer in 2010, knew of their affair and Hunter claims that she was stalked by the Senator's deceased wife.

Hunter says she wrote the memoir for the four-year-old daughter she had with Edwards. "I want to give her one entirely truthful public account of how she came into the world. After all, this is her story too."

But according to reports, in addition to laying out the sequence of events that led her into the arms of Edwards, she also goes off on Elizabeth Edwards, calling her "crazy" and a "witch on wheels." She also claims that it was Elizabeth Edwards' erratic and controlling behavior that led Edwards to cheat on her for so many years.

John Edwards, who was recently acquitted on one count of violating campaign finance rules, has not commented on the book. But many have expressed outrage at Hunter's portrayal of Elizabeth Edwards. On the daytime talk show "The View," co-host Elisabeth Hasselbeck called her "disgusting" while her co-host Whoopi Goldberg took a bottle of Lysol, the disinfectant cleaner, and pretended to spray off the filth of what she was hearing. 

In the book, Hunter expresses still having feelings for Edwards, whom she refers to as "Johnny" throughout the book. It's not clear from what's been reported whether the two are still romantically involved. However, she does say,"I really have no idea what will happen with us. The jury is still out. But I can honestly say that the ending is of no concern to me anymore," she said, "The love is here. And as sappy as it may sound, I love living in love."
