'Jurassic World' Sequel Release Date Announced! Chris Pratt Returning for More Dino Action

The mega blockbuster sci-fi adventure "Jurassic World" is getting a sequel, which will be out in two years' time, Deadline reports. Chris Pratt and Bryce Dallas Howard will be back as Owen Grady and Claire Dearing respectively, but Colin Trevorrow won't be directing it.

Back when the reboot was just getting ready to hit the cinemas, Trevorrow already expressed that he won't sit in the director's chair for the second time, but he will still be there working his magic on the sequel, essentially made possible through his genius helming.

"Jurassic Park is like Star Wars. Different directors can give a different taste to each movie," Trevorrow said to Entertainment Weekly in answer to returning as a director for the sequel to the film. "I would be involved in some way, but not as director," he promised.

According to Wall Street Journal, Trevorrow will be joining Derek Connolly as a screenwriter for the second "Jurassic World" movie. Together with Steven Spielberg, who directed original movies based on the stories of the late author Michael Crichton, he will executive produce it too.

Deadline adds that Trevorrow won't be directing the film simply because he was tapped to take the reins on a "Star Wars" movie though it did not mention which one. Heroic Hollywood, however, claims that this flick will be "Star Wars Episode IX." Disney has made no announcement about it though.

Just days ago, "Jurassic World" trampled blockbuster records, easily clambering to third spot in the list of highest grossing films of all time and knocking "The Avengers" out the top three, Yahoo reports. Internationally, the monster-centric flick earned $1.52 billion in ticket sales.

This is why a sequel was always expected. "It just goes to show you that superheroes have nothing on dinosaurs, probably because they actually walked the earth at one time, something that has intrigued all ages for eons," Exhibitor Relations analyst Jeff Bock told AFP via Yahoo.

Even before the movie went on to be a dinosaur movie sensation, Pratt, who will also be doing a sequel to "Guardians of the Galaxy," has already gave word about starring in follow-up installments to the immensely successful and celebrated franchise.

"They have me for, I think, 38 movies or something," the actor told Entertainment Weekly in a separate interview. This means that fans will be seeing more of Grady and his dino friends and adventures in all sorts of eye-popping exploits.

The "Jurassic World" sequel will be out June 22, 2018.
