Here are must-know details about the upcoming season and cast before the series returns:
The vampire brothers are into charity these days
While the Salvatore brothers are on their break, actors Ian Somerhalder, who portrays Damon, and Paul Wesley, who portrays Stefan, are busy working on a charity campaign, reports Entertainment Weekly.
The actors launched a t-shirt campaign on Represent, an online platform for selling custom merchandise.
"We're so excited to release our first ever joint official shirt, featuring an incredible design by a fan, Kathryn Kij. A portion of proceeds will be donated to charity," Paul and Ian said in a statement posted on the campaign display.
Wesley also said on Twitter that the funds will go to environmental causes.
The black shirt featuring the images of the two actors with a red text underneath that reads, "Blood Brothers since 1864," is available for $23.99.
As of July 18, more than 1,500 shirts have been sold, exceeding the sales goal which is 1000. The campaign will run for about two weeks.
Elena said goodbye but three female villains are coming
Actress Nina Dobrev made her exit in the final episode of Season 6.
"At the end of the day, I'm not actually a vampire," she told The Hollywood Reporter. "The fairy tale has to end, and the next chapter has to begin."
Meanwhile, three villains are coming to season 7, Entertainment Weekly reports.
Elizabeth Blackmore, Scarlett Byrne, and Teressa Liane are portraying three new heretics and are making their debut in the season premiere.
Blackmore is playing Valerie, who is going to be dark and powerful. Byrne is portraying Nora, a tomboyish female in a cute way.
Nora has a relationship with another female character, Mary Louise, who is portrayed by Liane. The two characters make the first same-sex couple cast throughout the whole series.
