Margaret A. Farley is a nun who also happens to be theologian and ethicist at Yale Divinity School. She is also an author of the controversial book, "Just Love: A Framework for Christian Sexual Ethics," which was published in 2006. But it wasn't until just this week that the book received any fanfare. The reason for the attention and what has ended up becoming great publicity for the book is because earlier this week, the Vatican issued a statement criticizing the book and saying that what she writes of sexual ethics is contradictory to Catholic teaching. 

Now aided by the media frenzy that ensued after condemnation from the Vatican on Monday, her book has climbed from its 142,982 place on Amazon to #16 on the bestseller list.

The controversy of the book stems from Farley's unconventional religious point-of-view on sexuality and because she is a nun who holds these views.  Examples of the hot issues that Farley and the Vatican disagree on include same sex marriage (Farley is for it), masturbation (Farley is for it and doesn't believe that engaging in the act is unethical or immoral) and marriage after divorce (Farley sees nothing wrong with it). 

Having gone into retirement, Farley has only responded to the Vatican's critique by saying that she never intended to reflect contemporary Catholic teachings with her book.
