Kevin Alejandro is the latest celeb to join the exploits of the lord of hell outside the underworld in the FOX series adaptation "Lucifer," Deadline reports. The actor, who had a baddie-turned-nice-guy stint in "Arrow" as Sebastian Blood, is off to another comic book retelling under the big DC umbrella.
The "True Blood" actor will play the role of a grumpy LAPD homicide detective named Dan, who is very suspicious of Lucifer's intentions that have to do with his family. Alejandro is set to replace "Law & Order SVU" star Nicholas Gonzalez, who played the role during the pilot of the series.
"Lucifer," which is based on Mike Carey's comic book series under Vertigo (DC Entertainment's imprint) of the same name, follows the evil dynamo, who decides to involve himself in the world of crime-fighting via the LAPD when boredom strikes in the inferno as he manages a high-class nightclub.
Carter Matt reports that Alejandro's character isn't as enchanted as others when it comes to the hellraiser's career change, owing to the fact that his wife and fellow LAPD officer, Chloe, who is torn between her fascination and repulsion towards Lucifer, is now working with him to bring bad guys to jail. This also puts Lucifer in close proximity to his daughter.
The title role is essayed by "Rush" star Tom Ellis. According to Superhero Hype, Lucifer is loosely based on the character introduced in Neil Gaiman's comic book series, "Sandman," which gave birth to the spinoff Carey went on to write. TV Line cites that Dan's wife is played by "Chicago Fire" star Lauren German.
The rest of the cast includes Lesley-Ann Brandt as Lucifer's best pal Maze, a fierce demon in a human woman flesh; D.B. Woodside as angel Amenadiel, who flies to LA to convince Lucifer to go back to being the lord of hell; and Rachael Harris as Lucifer's therapist, Linda.
Comic Book Resources writes that that TV series is under Warner Bros, DC Entertainment and Jerry Bruckheimer Productions. Tom Kapinos and Len Wiseman will write and direct the show respectively and at the same time, executive produce it with Bruckheimer, Jonathan Littman and Ildy Modrovich. Joe Henderson will serve as the showrunner.
"Lucifer" is set to heat things up in FOX next year, but fans have no specific date to circle yet. There is nothing juicy to munch on yet except for a three-minute long trailer, which was released back in May.
