The story of Groupon, the multi-billion dollar deal-of-the-day site launched in 2008 will be featured in a new book by Frank Sennett. The book is slated to come out next week and is titled "Groupon's Biggest Deal Ever" with the subtitle "the inside story of how one insane gamble, tons of unbelievable hype and millions of wild deals made billions for one ballsy joker."
The book tells of how the idea concocted by Andrew Mason went on to become one of today's most successful companies through trials and tribulations and lots of pranks and jokes. Sennett had penned a 2010 Time Out cover story on the company where he described the CEO as a scooter-riding jokester and of the company's fort like work spaces made by sheets draped across cubicles.
The book also delves into some past headlines about the company such as the Superbowl PR fumble where a commercial on the company dipicted Tibetan culture in what some called an offensive light and why the company declined the $6 billion buy out from Google.
From online reviews on the book, it appears that the book will offer a mix of insider business knowledge on the company as well as a look into the idiosyncratic personalities of the guys who started the company.
The book will be published by St. Martin's Press and will be out on June 5th.
