As the cast of the upcoming movie "Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them" slowly unravels, author J.K. Rowling dropped another bomb in a tweet announcing a new Harry Potter play.
According to Vulture, "Harry Potter and the Cursed Child" is scheduled for its debut on the London stage in 2016, but nothing big about the plot has been revealed. There are small hints about what to expect in the upcoming play, and almost all of them can be found in one place: Rowling's Twitter timeline.
The first thing "Harry Potter" fans need to know about the new play is that it brings along a new story. There are already seven books and eight films, but this new story still hasn't been told before.
In another tweet, Rowling shared her excitement to share an "untold' part of Harry Potter.
With a mysterious plot, fans do not know what to expect. On the other hand, fans do know what not to expect. It can be found, once again, in one of Rowling's tweets. She tweeted, "NOT a prequel!" However, she did not say anything about it being a sequel. It can also be a story that happened during a gap between two books.
When it comes to which is the better storyteller between the books and the films, people have mixed opinions. Fans of either the books or the films are now wondering why the new story is not being published on print or released on the big screen.
On her Twitter, Rowling said, "To answer one inevitable (and reasonable!) question - why isn't Cursed Child a new novel? - I am confident that when the audiences see the play they will agree that it was the only proper medium for the story."
With this, Rowling hints that this new story has a unique touch to it that fans haven't seen in the books or films before.
"I've had countless offers to extend Harry's story over the years, but Jack, John and Sonia Friedman are a dream team!", Rowling expressed her excitement about the production team in another Twitter post.
The production team includes Jack Thorne, an award-winning English screenwriter and playwright, John Tiffany, a Tony Award-winning theater director and Sonia Friedman, a British West End and Broadway theater producer.
