The McCanns have filed a case against former police Chief Goncolo Amaral after the investigator published a new book that claims the McCanns were involved in the disappearance of their daughter, Madeleine.
Former police Chief Goncolo Amaral was the main investigator of the case involving the disappearance of Madeleine McCann in 2007. However, he was removed from the case after he publicly criticized British investigators. The former policeman went on to write a book about the case titled "The Truth Of The Lie" which was published in 2008.
Now, parents of Madeleine have filed a case against Amaral for accusing them in the disappearance of their daughter in his book. The McCanns are seeking $1.6 million in damages. According to reports, in the book Amaral accused the parents of hiding their daughter's body after faking her abduction.
Arriving at the court with his sister Trish Cameron, Kate McCann's mother Susan Healy and father Gerry McCann told reporters, "We are here to listen to the judge and hopefully be heard."
His sister Trish Cameron said Amaral's accusation in the book has left her brother and sister-in-law "in purgatory." She also claimed that the false blame made in the book has hindered their process of looking for Madeleine.
"My brother and sister-in-law live in purgatory because they have no end and they are looking for the truth," she said. "They would like an end but there is no end because they don't know what's happened."
The court is expected give its verdict early November 2013.
