Frank Lampard Signs Deal to Write 5 Novels for Children

English Footballer Frank Lampard has signed a deal with publisher Little, Brown Books for Young Readers to write five novels for children aged five and above.

English midfielder Frank Lampard has decided to take up something other than football as a career. The Chelsea player's contract with the club ends this June and Lampard has decided to take up writing for a while. According to a report by Reuters, the 34-year -old football player has signed a deal with publisher Little, Brown Books for Young Readers and will be writing five novels for children aged five and above.

The five book series has been tiled "Frankie's Magic Football." The series will tell the story of a school boy named Frankie, his pet dog Max and his football-loving friends. The first book has been titled "Frankie versus the Pirate Pillagers" and will be released this June.

Lampard said in a statement that the idea of writing books for children came to him when he read to his own children at home. Lampard reveals that reading and sports are two "essentials" in his home and so he decided to mix the two and came up with a series of stories about soccer and adventure. The Chelsea player also said that the characters in his books are more inspired from his friends and players he's played with throughout his football career.

According to a report by The Bookseller, two more books from the series - "Frankie versus the Rowdy Romans" and "Frankie versus the Mummy's Menace" are slated to release later this year, while the other two books that make up the five-book series are scheduled for an early 2014 release.

The report also stated that the deal was handled by Neil Blair and Zoe King, who also took forward J.K Rowling's deal for her "Harry Potter" series. The illustrations in the book will be handled by "Shrek" animator Mike Jackson.

Editorial director of Little, Brown Books for Young Readers, Samantha Smith, said in an official statement that she couldn't think of anyone more apt for publishing a book for children than the footballer. She said that it's important to get children excited about reading from an early age and Lampard's books on football, fun and friendship is a good way to start.
