Summertime is a time for reading books, whether out in the sun or in the comfort of your home. With the promises of days off and vacation days, we can tackle our long to-be-read book list.

Here are five new fantasy releases you can add to your summer reading list.

The Wren in the Holly Library by K.A. Lindie

Monsters came out of the darkness 13 years ago, wreaking havoc and bringing the world near complete destruction. Kierse's world collapsed as the New York City she once knew transformed into a sight she could not recognize overnight. Due to these events, the Monster Treaty - a truce between monsters and humans - was established.

Until one night, Kierse, a talented and fearless thief, breaks that treaty. She breaks through the Holly Library, not knowing who the monstrous owner is. He is a charming but terrifying man who recognizes Kierse's talent, which traps her into a dangerous bargain that puts their own futures at risk. It is a game he has been playing for centuries, and once Kierse joins, there will be no turning back.

Rakesfall by Vajra Chandrasekera

This book, the second novel from the author of "The Saint of Bright Doors," tells the story of Leveret and Annelid, who met post-war but before peace was achieved. They find one another in a country in ruins to discover the truth. Another violent act in the demon-haunted wood brings them together, sending them on a journey throughout the ages. They will always be there for one another, and nothing can separate or keep them from each other.

However, oppressors create barriers to shape reality to fit themselves. Moreover, the witches of the red web promise that every throne will fall.

Daughter of the Merciful Deep by Leslye Penelope

Since her family and all the other Black residents were driven from their village by armed horsemen when Jane Edwards was 11 years old, Jane Edwards has not spoken a word. She has found refuge in the all-Black community of Awenasa 12 years later. However, their houses are in danger of getting submerged because of the construction of a new dam.

When Jane, determined to save the town that took care of her, meets a man with unique abilities, she wonders if he may hold the key. However, as the man talks about ancestral magic and gods, she is drawn by an even bigger mystery. She knows the man, but he has been Jane dead the last time she saw him in a river.

To find out who the man is and his reason for being in Awenasa, Jane travels to an underwater world, a place of irrational gods and little-known myths, and salvation and dreams come true. Jane has to rediscover her voice and face her trauma to achieve the miracle she so desperately wants.

Children of Anguish and Anarchy by Tomi Adeyemi

This book centers on Zélie, the main character in Tomi Adeyemi's highly anticipated final installment of the "Legacy of Orïsha" trilogy.

Zelie believed her problems were over when she took control of the royal castle that fateful night. At last, the monarchy had collapsed, and the maji had risen again. Zélie never imagined that she would be trapped on a foreign ship, now being trafficked across the oceans, far from their birthplace, by warriors wearing iron skulls.

Everything changes when Zélie meets King Baldyr, the Skulls' ruler and her captor. He has destroyed countless civilizations in search of her. Due to Baldyr's objective to use Zélie's strength, Zélie, Amari, and Tzain search for allies.

However, as Baldyr gets closer, disaster rages throughout Orïsha's coast. Zélie must use her all to defeat her last foe and save her people before the Skulls kill them.

Reckless by Lauren Roberts

This sequel to Lauren Robert's "Powerless," follows the story of Paedyn Gray. After she survives the Purging Trials, Ordinary-born Paedyn assassinates the King, igniting a Resistance across the kingdom of Ilya. The only person she wanted to run to, Kai Azer, is now her Iilya's Enforcer, loyal to the new King, his brother Kitt. He vows to find Paedyn and prosecute her.

Kai hunts down the one person he wishes he did not have to across the deadly Scorches and far into the hostile city of Dor. The hunter-hunted dynamic changes in a city without Elites, and the deadly battle between duty and desire confronts him.

This book is a must-read for fans of the popular "Hunger Gamers" series.
