Todd Akin is seemingly looking for another way to be in the spotlight, starting with writing a book.

According to St. Louis Post-Dispatch, Akin is "hopeful about what lies ahead. He said he is considering taking advantage of his new fame by writing a book - something Sen. Claire McCaskill, the victor in his race, also has discussed."

"I've always believed that if you're willing to work hard and try to do the right thing, things will work out for you," Akin, 65, said during interviews this week.

Sen. Claire McCaskill recently defeated Akin in the race for Senate. STLToday reported that the final results showed McCaskill with 54.7 percent to the vote, Akin with 39.2 percent.

"It takes a little time to recover from it emotionally," he said.

He remarked at another point, "I think there's a natural mechanism to get over it called the mortgage payment. I've got to find what my next job is going to be." Maybe it's writing a novel.

Akin was thrust into the spotlight this summer after he said that victims of "legitimate rape" rarely become pregnant because "the female body has ways to try to shut that whole thing down," according to the Huffington Post, which sparked outrage.

Akin later apologized for his remarks, saying in an ad released online, "Rape is an evil act. I used the wrong words in the wrong way, and for that I apologize."

"The fact is rape can lead to pregnancy. The truth is rape has many victims. The mistake I made was in the words I said, not in the heart I hold. I ask for your forgiveness," he added.

According to a Books & Review report, Akin noted that he is the father of two daughters and said he wanted "tough justice" for rapists and expressed compassion for victims.
