The race is on for who will play Elena Lincoln, a.k.a. Mrs. Robinson in the upcoming "Fifty Shades of Grey" movie.

In some "Breaking News" (well, we consider it breaking!) for the important role of Elena, it seems that "Sex and the City" star Kim Cattrall is now interested in the role.

According to BelfastTelegraph, the 56-year-old star confirmed she is being considered for the role of Elena.

"As far as I'm aware it's potentially between me and Uma Thurman," Cattrall told Australian radio show hosts Kyle and Jackie O. "I think we are in minds at the moment. That's based on a lot of people's blogs and desires at the moment. As far as I know they are still writing the script so the casting is some way down the line."

Cattrall previously denied rumors in August, but she did reveal she is a fan of the books.

"It's just been a sensation," Cattrall gushed. "It's truly extraordinary. Especially women on their kindles and with the way we like to whisper things!"

Uma Thurman provides good competition for the role of Elena.

The "Bel Ami" star recently got high praise for her role. Co-star Robert Pattinson paid tribute to the "Kill Bill" actress, saying, "(Working with Uma was) a pretty crazy experience. Her role was someone more intelligent, more charming, wittier and better in bed than me. Which was obviously very difficult to cast."

TheStir.CafeMom.com said that basically Thurman was made for the part of Elena. The 42-year-old actress was recently signed on to Lars von Trier's new film, "Nymphomaniac," which features real on-screen sex. Shia LaBeouf stars in the new movie.

"Thurman is no stranger to intense, button-pushing material, as she has done the violent side with Quentin Tarantino and the sexual side in the first-ever NC-17 film, Henry & June. But just what she'll do in this movie is unclear," Slashfilm wrote.

This is good news for an Elena contender, because a flashback of Christian and his first BDSM partner will be full of sex scenes.

It seems that both Thurman and Cattrall have a large fan base and that indeed, whoever plays Elena would need to be someone who is as sexy and has a great ability to act as these two stars do.

In an ongoing US Weekly poll, Cattrall is winning with fan favorite Charlize Theron right behind her.

In a Books & Review poll, Theron won with Cattrall in second place.

One commenter said, "I think Kim would be great as Mrs. R." Another said, "Kim would make a fabulous Mrs. R."

On Liggybee.blogspot.com, the website picked Thurman as the best choice for Mrs. Robinson versus Cameron Diaz and Theron.

"I think the best choice would be Uma Thurman because she can be believably mature enough for the role but yet sexy and still young enough to make Anastasia insecure about herself and doubtful of Christian's sincerity. Doesn't she look like she could be classy businesswoman with a deep dark secret past?" the writer said.

Elena (whom Anastasia Steele semi-jokingly dubs Mrs. Robinson) [SPOILER ALERT!!] was one of Christian Grey's mother's close married older friends, and coaxed him into an affair with her.

Elena was Christian's first sexual experience and, according to him, introduced him to the world of BDSM by making him her submissive, which sparked teenage arousal in him. The affair lasted until he was 21-years-old when her husband found out, and although they are no longer sexual, they still remain close friends (until "Fifty Shades Freed").
