The bestselling "Diary of a Wimpy Kid" book series will be available via e-book.
According to the New York Times, Amulet Books imprint of Abrams announced Monday that it will release the first six volumes of the illustrated "Wimpy Kid" novels in e-book format on Oct. 30.
There's more news in the wimpy world of young Greg Heffley, who is the protagonist in Jeff Kinney's bestselling book series.
The seventh book in the series, "Diary of a Wimpy Kid: The Third Wheel," will be released on Nov. 13. It is described:
Love is in the air-but what does that mean for Greg Heffley?
A Valentine's Day dance at Greg's middle school has turned his world upside down. As Greg scrambles to find a date, he's worried he'll be left out in the cold on the big night. His best friend, Rowley, doesn't have any prospects either, but that's a small consolation.
An unexpected twist gives Greg a partner for the dance and leaves Rowley the odd man out. But a lot can happen in one night, and in the end, you never know who's going to be lucky in love.
Many "Wimpy" readers are excited for the next book in Kinney's series.
One commenter on GoodReads said, "I'm so excited for the book!"Another said, I have read all the Wimpy Kid books so far, and I canNOT wait for this one to come out! I am PSYCHED!!!!! Two others said, "I marked it as one of my to read books i have all the others but this one and I am SO EXCITED!!!!!!!" and "I LOVED the other books. this is the newest one and I'm seriously dying to read it ;)"
Kinney, who was reluctant to release the novels as e-books after they started appearing in print in 2007, according to the NYT, said in a statement, "It was important to me to make sure the books look just as good on the screen as they do on paper. I'm thrilled at the way the books look on e-readers, tablets, and other devices, and I hope fans enjoy having them in digital format as much as they've enjoyed them as books."
The "Diary of a Wimpy Kid" books have been adapted into movies, the latest being "Dog Days," which was released Aug. 3. Amulet Books has published more than 75 million copies in print of the popular series, according to ComicsBeat, and are in print in 35 languages in more than 36 countries around the world.
"The Third Wheel" will get a 6.5 million copy print run, the largest printing of any book in 2012, according to Amulet Books' press release.
