Lumia 920 Release Date, Verizon to Carry Lumia 822; Nokia Windows Phone 8 Features Dominate vs iPhone 5, Galaxy S3 Mini

New details surfaced about Verizon and Nokia's new flagship smartphones.

According to Business Insider, Verizon will not just get the rumored Lumia 822, but it will also get the Lumia 922 as well, which both are modified versions the Lumia 920 and Lumia 820.

"The person who runs the Twitter account @NokiaPureView, who we understand from PhoneArena and WPCentral is also accurate with Nokia leaks, says he has used the Lumia 922, which will also launch on Verizon. It's safe to assume the 922 will be Verizon's version of the Lumia 920," Business Insider reported.

For the Lumia 822, according to PopHerald, photos have been leaked online by a Windows-centric blog site, and the unannounced device is reportedly the Verizon variant of the Nokia Lumia 820, a mid-range Windows Phone 8 handset.

"Windows Phone 8 interface, the 4G LTE logo of Verizon Wireless, and the 'Carl Zeiss' optics branding on the phone's 8-megapixel autofocus back-facing camera," PopHerald reported.

T-Mobile recently announced it will sell an altered version of the Lumia 820 called the Lumia 810.

The Lumia 810 features a 4.3-inch OLED WVGA Clear Black display, 800x480 pixel resolution, 8-megapixel rear-facing camera with Carl Zeiss optics, 1.2 megapixel front-facing camera with Skype HD, 1GB RAM, 1,650mAh battery and the Windows Phone 8 operating system.

Business Insider gives a reason why Nokia has five different variants for different U.S. carriers unlike Samsung and Apple, who launch the same phone all around.

"The likely answer is that Nokia doesn't have the same clout over carriers that Samsung and Apple do. As a result, the carriers demand 'exclusive' devices from Nokia, so Nokia is forced to tweak its hardware for each carrier.

Despite Nokia taking a lot of criticism for its new flagship smartphone, the Lumia 920, it still has a chance to compete against other rivals in the market.

The specs are one reason why many are saying it will choose Nokia over Apple or Samsung.

The Lumia 920 runs on Microsoft Windows Phone 8. It takes many of the physical design elements from previous generations of Lumia handsets, but improves on internal hardware and display technology. Some of the new tech specs include PureMotion HD+ 4.5 inch display (1280 x 768 resolution), Dual-core 1.5GHz Snapdragon S4 processor, NFC chip, 2,000mAh battery, and Qi wireless charging. Nokia is touting the Lumia 920′s premier feature as its new camera lens, the Carl Zeiss lens. It has rounded edges and colorful covers with a PureView camera.

Autoomobile.com gave four reasons why Nokia's Lumia 920 is better than Apple's iPhone 5:

Wireless charging

PureView 8.7 megapixel camera which uses Carl Zeiss and has a floating lens tech, which allows 5 to 10 times more light than any other handset. This makes photos crystal clear. The Lumia 920 beat the iPhone 5 in a test for low light conditions.

PureMotion HD Display which is super sensitive. Users can operate with wearing gloves.

More Available Colors. The Lumia 920 comes in red, yellow, blue, grey, white, and black, more options that the iPhone 5.

IBTimes did a comparison between Samsung's Galaxy S3 Mini and the Lumia 920.

The Lumia 920 won in many categories with its 1.5 Ghz Snapdragon processor vs Mini's 1Ghz Ericsson NovaThor chipset, more storage options (up to 64GB) vs Mini's microSD slot up to 32GB, its 8-megapixel camera vs Mini's 5 MP camera, and 2000 mAh battery vs Mini's 1500 mAh.

The two smartphones came to a draw when it came to operating systems (Windows Phone 8 vs Android 4.1 Jelly Bean). The Galaxy S3 Mini won when it came to NFC because users can choose whether the Mini will have the feature or not, which is an advantage for users to live in cities or countries where NFC technology is not supported yet.

However, the highly anticipated Lumia 920 wins overall.

Nvonews.com called the Lumia 920 a "compelling device."

"A host of other features make the Lumia 920 a compelling device. The ability to charge wirelessly, better visibility under direct sunlight due to PureMotion HD technology, offline maps, and NFC capability being some of them."

According to TheVerge, the Lumia 920 will be available for pre-order in the U.S. on Oct. 21.

"Sources familiar with AT&T and Microsoft's plans have revealed to The Verge that the carrier will start taking pre-orders for its range of Windows Phone 8 handsets on October 21st - including the HTC 8X and Nokia's Lumia 920," TheVerge reported. Pre-orders will also be available for Samsung's Ativ Smart PC and the Asus Vivo Tab RT in preparation for a launch on Oct. 26.

PhonesReview reported that the release date for AT&T seems to point to Nov. 4. Microsoft is holding an event on Oct. 29 in California to announce the final version of Windows Phone 8.
