iCloud Gets New Features for iPhone 5, iPad Mini; iOS 6 Release Time Finally Here

With Apple releasing their new operating system, iOS 6, today Sept. 19, many want to know the new features it will give iCloud, and what will it do for the rumored iPad Mini when it comes in October.

For iCloud, notes and reminders will synch up with other mobile devices and Mac PCs but will not support location based reminders, according to Latinos Post. The new lost mode in Find my Phone will enable users to lock any iOS 6 device remotely, ensuring that no one will be able to utilize it while it is lost. The new feature will track the device and email the user updates of any location changes. Lost Mode will also allow users to see locations that the iOS device has visited on a map. iCalender will no longer have Reminders, since they now have their own app.

According to Slashgear, one change is "a brand new drop-down notifications bar - what you're seeing here is a note from the Apple calendar showing us that we've got an imminent date with a skateboard. The other update is that Notes is now a cross-platform system - now in the browser-based iCloud environment, you'll be able to make a note to yourself on your iPhone or iPad and have it wherever you need it, no matter the device - just head to the web browser."

Also with iCloud, now you can keep track of what you previewed in iBooks.

iBooks is already an app on Apple iPads. According to Apple, the iBookstore feature "the best of what's new right at the top of the page." There is over 1.5 million books, including new Multi-Touch textbooks. "Since iCloud keeps track of what you've previewed, you can start shopping on your iPad and continue on another device."

There are also reading tools, such as highlight or underline text, make notes, look up a word in the dictionary or on the web, or search inside the book. You can even use VoiceOver to have iPad read to you. With iCloud, the books you buy on your iPad appear on your other devices, ready to read.

This is extremely important to compete with other rival tablets like Amazon's Kindle Fire HD and Google's Nexus 7.

According to Wired, "Photo Stream with iCloud and iOS 6 on the iPhone 5 synchronizes your photos on all your devices, and now you can share those Photo Streams with friends. When your friends see new streams pop up, they can view and comment on them as well. You can follow all of your favorite friends just like Instagram..."

With iOS 6, it makes it easy to share photos with friends and family, as well as share photos with other iOS devices on the same account, according to CNET.

"Now you'll be able to select photos you would like to share, touch the share button, and send them to as many contacts as you want. Apple has also added the ability to 'Like' and comment on shared photos. This iOS 6 feature works on both Wi-Fi and cellular connections," according to CNET.

How will this be good for the iPad Mini? It will definitely give it something different from other tablets, as well as give Apple users an experience similar to those who have the iPhone 5.

According to Cnet, is iOS 6 said to have 200 new features.

According to the Huffington Post, the new operating system has a scheduled download time of 1 p.m. EST and 10 a.m. PST, according to CNN Money.
