Apple unveiled their new highly anticipated iPhone 5 on Sept. 12, and many are wondering if Samsung's new smartphone, the Galaxy S III, will be able to stay in the game.
Here's some reasons how the Galaxy S3 could stay in the game against the iPhone 5.
Android/4G LTE
According to PCAuthority, Samsung's latest 4G-capable S3 is set to launch with Jelly Bean out of the box, with an update for existing owners right around the corner.
"The Samsung Galaxy S3 LTE model being launched by Optus, along with its new 4G network could be arriving with Android 4.1 Jelly Bean out of the box," the report said. "A spec sheet for the 4G-capable Galaxy S3 reveals that it will be running the latest version of Android on launch, packed within an exclusive Titanium Grey body.
"A German TechRadar reader has reported that his Galaxy S3 is already chowing down on a Jelly Bean update, so it shouldn't be too long before Galaxy S3 users get a taste of the latest Android operating system."
According to KnowYourMobile, Samsung confirmed that the Android Jelly Bean update will be arriving on the Samsung Galaxy S3 at some point during October, but didn't reveal an exact date.
The 4G version on Everything Everywhere [EE] will launch later this year, and it will already come with Andriod Jelly Bean already installed.
"You can bet the iPhone 5 will feel denser and more expensive in-hand and will continue to offer the beginner's usability benefits of iOS over Android. However, it'll also be a lot less flexible - using a new proprietary socket and lacking a memory card slot - and you can bet that by the time it's released the Samsung Galaxy S3 will be substantially cheaper to own," reported Trusted Reviews.
Display
Samsung's Galaxy S3 has the largest screen, which is a 4.8-inch HD Super AMOLED Pentile HD display with "Retina-like" pixel density, which yields a 1,280x720-pixel resolution and a pixel density of 306 pixels per inch. The screen is bigger to watch your favorite TV shows, movies, or anything else you want to see.
The iPhone 5 has a 4-inch Retina display with 1136 x 640 resolution and 328 ppi.
More Colors
Samsung offers more colors for their smartphone. The Galaxy S3 comes in white, blue, red, gray, black and brown. The iPhone 5 only comes in black and white.
NFC
Samsung was the first to market with file-sharing over NFC.
Newsnet5.com described NFC:
NFC: "Near field communication" is a short-range wireless technology that lets your smartphone do lots of cool things, from beaming content to other devices nearby to using your phone as a mobile wallet.
Credit card companies like MasterCard have embraced NFC.
Apple, on the other hand, does not have NFC, but it might have something similar on its new operating system, iOS 6 - app called Passbook that stores items like digital boarding passes and membership cards -- and it seems like a short leap to storing credit cards.
Carrier
For customers who want a nice, sleek, thinner smartphone but doesn't want to get it through AT&T, Sprint, or Verizon, Samsung has two extra options, T-Mobile and U.S. Cellular.
Battery Life/Exapandable Memory
While the iPhone 5 doesn't have expandable memory, the Galaxy S3 has up to 64 GB of it. Also, the Galaxy has a slightly larger battery with 2,100 mAH battery compared to the iPhone 5's 2,000 mAH batter. Plus, the Galaxy S3 has a removable battery, while the iPhone's is embedded.
